講義題目
授業概要	(Semester One) This course will examine the rules, structures, conventions and uses of written English. We will practise exercises in translation, aural dictation and literary comprehension. The course will involve a study of the rules of spelling, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structures and syntactical techniques in written English. There will be practice exercises in writing formal and informal letters for business and personal uses, and academic and descriptive writing. We will also discuss the differences and similarities between English and Japanese uses of spoken language, and methods of teaching English. (Semester Two) This course will continue the work of the first semester, and will introduce more advanced techniques in writing English. We will study complex sentence structures and styles, and practise exercises in translation and imaginative, descriptive and academic writing. We will also examine and practise the casual and idiomatic structures and vocabularies of informal written English. We will explore the history of written English and the relationship between English writing and culture.
