Kumamoto Prefecture

Kumamoto Prefecture, with a population of 1,840,000, is located in the center of Kyushu, Japan's largest southern island, which at a size 7,405 km² is 7 times bigger than Hong Kong.1/6 of Kumamoto Prefecture is covered in forest and rich in nature. Kumamoto-City

Kumamoto City, with a population of 680,000 people, is Kumamoto’s prefectural capital. It is the 3rd largest city in Kyusyu after Fukuoka-City and Kitakyushu-City. Service, IT, agriculture, and the marine product industries combine to form the economic backbone of the city, which is also traditionally famous as a castle town centered around Kumamoto Castle. Recently, a seven-year reconstruction project was completed on the castle, which continues to be a major tourist attraction for both Japanese and international tourists alike.
